About this painting: This piece holds a special place in my journey as an artist. Created in 1999 under the guidance of my first teacher, Winnie, it is a black-and-white recreation of a Mary Cassatt painting - the very first painting I ever completed. Winnie believed deeply in using color expressively and boldly, a philosophy that continues to shape my work today. While this early piece does not yet reflect the vibrant approach she championed, her dynamic spirit and emphasis on fearless color remain at the heart of my technique.
